Last night, I saw the CSO at Ravinia. They performed Beethoven's Piano Concerto no. 3 and Prokofiev 5. I'd been meaning to get there all summer, and finally got down to business. I love the venue; the lawn on a beautiful night undoubtedly breeds great ambiance. But, what can I say....I don't do so well with that lack of sound from the orchestra. For at least half of the program, and for all of Prok 5, I stood at the railings in front of the pavillion. It's just not worth it to me to see the CSO without actually SEEING them let alone taking full advantage of their exceptional sound.
Other than that, Andre Watts' piano concerto performance was kinda unimpressive to me, but Prokofiev 5 was...spectacular. Oh how I love our city.
Anyone else have a memorable Ravinia experience?
